It offers visitors a uniquely South African and Luxury safari experience. The reserve is only a 4.5-hour scenic drive from Cape Town, between Mossel Bay and George. It is malaria free, family owned and operated with an abundance of animals including 4 of the Big 5, lions, elephants, buffalo’s, giraffes, rhino’s, hippo’s, rare black impalas and more as well as a unique bird life.
Fancourt, South Africa’s premier leisure resort is situated in the heart of the Garden Route. The resort is superbly landscaped on 613 hectares of lush countryside with the majestic Outeniqua Mountains as the perfect backdrop.
Located high up in the hills above the Garden Route town of Knysna (South Africa’s favourite holiday town), Simola Golf & Country Estate is a world apart. The rooms at the eco-friendly Simola Hotel, Country Club & Spa have free Wi-Fi, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a DVD player and a stylish bathroom with amenities. Some rooms have panoramic views of the lagoon or forest and include a kitchen and a cosy lounge with a fireplace.
The Montagu Course was originally designed by Gary Player and is a much celebrated parklands course that has previously been ranked as #1 in South Africa, and currently ranks #6 (2014).
Outeniqua, named after the mountain range that overlooks the area has a different look than the Montagu, so they complement each other perfectly as varying playing experiences.
Pezula Golf Club is a breathtaking 18 hole championship golf course designed by David Dale and Ronald Fream of GolfPlan USA. It offers visitors an unsurpassed golf experience with exquisite views over rolling greens and the ocean. Covering 254 hectares on the Knysna cliff-tops, the Pezula Championship Course has views of both the Knysna Lagoon and the Indian Ocean. It is designed to include a full range of shots making it a challenging, rewarding and complete golf experience for players of all levels. The signature holes have been earmarked as the 13th and 14th.
Simola occupies one of the most beautiful tracts of countryside in the Garden Route with the most beautiful views over the Knysna Lagoon. It offers challenging and rewarding golf amidst spectacular scenery. Set below the high ridges, it’s free from the wind that so often plagues coastal courses. Fairways flow with the natural undulating contours of the terrain and the unusual configuration of five par 5’s and five par 3’s adds a new dimension to the game.
The Links at Fancourt is without a doubt the most impressive piece of golf design and construction ever in South Africa. Fancourt owner, Dr Hasso Plattner, took a very hands-on approach in the creation thereof. Player’s design team spent months studying the links courses of Scotland and Ireland and armed with this knowledge they created The Links.
One of the most stunning canyons this country has to offer. The gorge is over 1km long and at times only 1.5 m wide and 80m deep. This trip takes one through spectacular scenery and offers abseiling through waterfalls, jumping off rocks and beautiful swims. Includes a 2km walk into the mountains to get to the gorge. Lunch and equipment provided (including wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet and harness). Minimum age 12 years old. (mid Sep – end Apr)
Join our experienced handlers as we have an early morning walk with our elephants before releasing them on the farm or getting them back to their boma at sunset to settle for the night. Our handlers will introduce you to these gentle African giants, taking part in brush downs, touching (sit on their knee) and feeding them a delicious snack bucket. Long pants and walking shoes are recommended for this exhilarating experience.
Head to the township to explore the cultures Knysna has to offer. You will meet many local shop owners – from hairdressers, where you can even have your hair cut or try on some new styles! Next on to see how the brightly illustrated, Nigerian Restaurant operating in the Township works. If you want to visit the Shebeen (pub) and play a bit of snooker or listen to the juke box music, then that is the next stop! On to the Paula Whitney Pre School, teeming with exuberant, laughing children, where you will be given the most amazing welcome. You have no choice but to interact with them and for that, they will sing their joyous songs for you including the South African National Anthem! Then a visit with the “Women of Vision” – a self employed team of motivated women who have a sewing group and put together some beautiful articles that make great gifts to take home as a memory of South Africa. Many other sights are pointed out along the way – Video shops, Tailors, Cell shops, great views, interesting people and houses. Back to town, after an exciting, happy trip.
The trip from the dock to the shark site is only about ten minutes so there is no long and tedious boat ride. The bay is also very protected so our sea conditions are normally very calm and comfortable. The crew will provide a briefing concerning the cage diving on the boat. To find the sharks they have to bait and chum. The baits and chum are natural marine products. It can take several minutes or several hours for the first shark to appear, you need to understand that nothing is guaranteed. Once you have sharks at the boat, the cage will go into the water and the diving will begin. Topside viewing is exciting for the non-diver and as the shark works very close to the surface you will have plenty of opportunity to take some action shots. A trip generally lasts for +- 4 hours and they offer a light lunch, snacks and drinks on the boat.
