Royal Johannesburg & Kensington - East Golf Course
The two, East and West, 18 hole layouts at "Royal" are among the best courses in Johannesburg. Royal was built in 1933 and the championship East layout has been frequent host to the South African Open. They refer to the West course as the Championship Course They are both long courses and at first glance an intimidating prospect for most visitors until you remember that at Johannesburg's high altitude the ball travels 10% further. The courses have a tree lined parkland layout with gentle waves rather than sudden slopes.
Royal Johannesburg & Kensington - West Golf Course
Designed in 1927 by Laurie Waters, The West Course, shorter in comparison to the East Course, is a fine example of how two layouts in close proximity can still create quite different, but vastly enjoyable golf experiences. While its beautiful sweeping fairways and generous sized greens inspire joy and confidence, the player who strays from them will quickly find trees, water or frustration in uncompromising abundance. Players of every level will find much delight in and many reasons to return.
